Huatulco Resorts

One of the advantages of staying at any major resort or hotel is that they have multiple restaurants on-site for you to dine at. Some of the resorts offer “all-inclusive” meal plans, where your meals and drinks are all covered and are set - usually with a lot of buffets. For some, this is the definition of holiday travel; all the food you can eat at your convenience! However, there are a few down falls if you’re not on a meal plan as the cost of food is usually exorbitant compared to many local restaurants.

Additionally, a lot of travelers will get bored of the same few restaurants and will want to explore other destinations to really taste some fine Mexican cuisine. So if you are the type of traveler who doesn’t enjoy staying and eating at the same place all week, you can guarantee you’ll be spending some money to enjoy dining at some off-site restaurants; and in the process lose money on the meals you’re not taking advantage of on your pre-paid plan.

Also, a lot of the luxury resorts enforce reservations at all of their restaurants. Many times you’ll find that you have a limited number of meals that can actually be enjoyed in a table service setting - leaving the rest of your meals for buffet dining. As mentioned, for some this is great, but for many travelers they would prefer to sample local restaurants to really enjoy the different tastes that Huatulco, Mexico has to offer!

Conclusion

The deals on food and beverages are very different for Huatulco villa rentals compared to resort vacations. When it comes down to it, it’s really all about what you want to get out of your dining experience(s). If you prefer to eat at buffets and at the same few restaurants; then a pre-paid meal plan at a Huatulco resort would be just perfect for you! However, if you want to enjoy some of the great local restaurants throughout Huatulco, this option may not be the best fit for you.

For villa renters they really have an incredible opportunity to have their very own personal cook prepare them their meals. Huatulco Villas

Huatulco has its own International airport (airport code=HUX), so it is a common destination for many of the largest international airlines. All year round you’ll find that the airline Mexicana offers flights into Huatulco - usually with a connection in Mexico City.

There are also several charters that offer direct flights and fly out of the United States and Canada. You can usually buy seats on these charters for cheaper than it would cost you to travel on Mexicana, but the problem is that you’re often forced into only traveling when they fly, which is usually only once a week.

Some of the major airline providers that travel to Huatulco include Continental Airlines and American Airlines. They usually offer connections and are often used for flights out of the biggest cities across the United States including San Francisco, LA, New York, Miami, Altanta, etc.

Huatulco Resorts

The only difference in air travel options for Huatulco resorts is if you’re getting a special packaged deal through your travel agent or tour company. If this is the case, then you are looking at an easy decision: the costs of the flights themselves should be lower than any of the flights available on the market, and if not, then you too will have to look for alternative arrangements with the mainstream airlines.

Either way, whether you’re traveling to a resort or a private villa, you are going to have to explore your options to find the best deal on air travel. When doing research, a few good resources to check include Expedia, Trip Advisor and Orbitz; they all provide information on air travel rates, quotes and reviews. Huatulco Resorts

Resort transportation is extremely appealing for many travelers because you usually travel with a large group of other people who are in the same position as you. This can often ease the stress that some travelers feel when trying to get their luggage and find their shuttle bus or other prearranged mode of pick-up transportation. Almost all of the Huatulco resorts offer airport pickup, so if you are traveling with a charter group, you will likely not be the only one traveling to your hotel.

The pick-up process is pretty similar for resort travel; once you clear customs and get your luggage you will find a person holding a sign with the name of your charter company. Once you meet them, you would usually be directed to a bus that you and all the other travelers will board. After all of the luggage has been loaded, you will proceed to the resorts. One of the downfalls is that the buses often make more than one stop (going from resort to resort) in order to to drop off travelers visiting the different resorts in the bay.

As a result, your estimated time to arrival really depends on the number of travelers on your bus. So traveling to a Huatulco resort may be a little more time consuming, but if you’re in vacation mode you probably won’t care too much about the extra time it takes to drop off other travelers at their resort(s).

When it comes down to air travel, the differences between going with a villa rental or a resort vacation are pretty minimal. For the actual costs of the flights, they will be the same unless you get bit of a deal by going with a combined travel package if you decide to stay at a Huatulco resort. This is probably our ultimate favorite Huatulco villa out of the entire tour…but if we had to say what it is best suited for…we’d say it’s perfect for a couples retreat! With three beautiful bedrooms on the upper level, each with its own master ensuite, it offers all the privacy of a resort but with the added bonus of an incredible shared living/dining space as well as a private pool. On the main level, you’ll find an open concept layout with a living room and kitchen - that opens up to the terrace overlooking the pool. There is also a formal dining area that seats 8 on the main level.

By the pool, there is an outer building complete with bathroom and single bedroom - if you want to bring an extra person along! This villa also shares a second pool with this exclusive gated community as well as a communal outdoor bar and sitting area. The views of the Santa Cruz marina are spectacular from the shared pool area!

Well…this is certainly a villa that will leave a long-lasting impression on anyone lucky enough to spend time in it! Overall, the feel of the property offers European luxury plus the balmy Mexican climate. Backing onto one of Mexico’s most revered golf courses (Huatulco Campo de Golf) - if you’re a golf lover who is looking for a tropical getaway - this is it! Close enough to the ocean that you can actually hear the waves hitting the shores from the veranda - you are well positioned for the best of both worlds. This villa offers a main house (which has one of the bedroom suites) and two guest houses in the back - each with its own one-bedroom suite set-up.

The private lap pool out back is perfect for cooling off or getting a little exercise to balance out all the cervezas! The architectural detail will just blow you away…you just have to experience it for yourself to take it all in. You can let your senses truly soak up all the elements: see the beauty of the location; smell the tropical flora all around you; listen to the sound of the waves in the distance; feel all the natural wood throughout the villa; and taste the icy cold Corona while chilling out in one of the hammocks beside the pool. You have to be ready to venture “off the beaten path” to journey to this destination! Most importantly, you must prepared for the thirty minute off-road drive involved in getting there…but…if you’re up for that, you’re ready for Salchi! After coming along the dirt road complete with bumps, donkeys, chickens, goats, mango trees, corn fields, etc…the scene will eventually open up to a hidden paradise! Salchi is a small but ever growing community of currently about 40 private villas! The rental we have profiled in Salchi is one of the only villas with a private swimming pool and is a gem amongst its undeveloped surroundings.

You will enjoy a week (or more) free of all crowds. There are no restaurants close by, no bars to hang out at, no towns to walk around in…it is a place to enjoy a week of secluded peace and quiet in the beauty of Huatulco’s natural paradise.

The home itself has three large bedrooms that all offer comfortable living space for three couples, each with its own full ensuite bath. The beauty extends upwards as when you walk upstairs and are graced both by a beautiful open-air patio that overlooks the breathtaking ocean and beach below. On the main floor of this villa - the details don’t stop…the kitchen offers lots of space for great meal preparation and the very unique natural wood dining table offers the perfect setting to enjoy the meal. The reason this villa stuck out for us was the fact that it is built specifically for family rentals! It is beautiful and luxurious yet…it’s kid proof!!! The 4 bedrooms are all exquisite and have their own bathrooms…and there is a special room complete with three single beds - set up to accommodate 3 children! The best part is that the kids bedroom is on a different level from the sitting area - which makes it easier to enjoy the late nights as parents without worrying about noise! Also a must for a good family vacation is a private pool…and a rooftop patio complete with lots of seating and a BBQ grill! This home also has full time staff who can, for a very minimal fee, be hired to do meal prep for you and your family (or families). If you prefer to cook for yourselves, you will love the open concept HUGE kitchen complete with high-end appliances…not exactly a hardship to cook when you’re feeling the sea breezes while looking out over the ocean and marina! So, in summary, kid proofed, beautiful, private pool, lots of space, rooftop patio…it’s family-style tropical extravagance!!

7.) Best Surfing Villa

Combine a beach that is home to some great breaks along with one of the only beachfront villas in the Bahias de Huatulco region and you have the makings of a great high-end surf getaway! The first surfing competition was held in Huatulco along this very stretch in May 2003 - and just like that Huatulco surfing was born as a new surf destination! From here there is 120 miles of surfing-rich coastline (between Huatulco and Salina Cruz) for surfers to enjoy. Now about the villa - which is ultimately the best part!! After an exhausting day of surfing…you can chill out and enjoy first class private service/staff and five start luxury and amenities! One of the things we liked best about this ultra deluxe surf villa is the fact that the bedroom suites are designed to offer the privacy of hotel rooms - each with its own full bathroom, safe, TV among other amenities. The greatest part is that if you don’t have enough people in your group to fill this villa - you can rent out the suites individually just to fit your group. Now for the rest of the bell and whistles that win this villa a five-star rating…airport transport, concierge service, infinity pool, rooftop Jacuzzi, daily breakfast, nightly turndown service, high-speed wireless internet, among other details. Where to begin…ok, our decision to list a Huatulco wedding villa came from our experience of attending a Mexican resort wedding last year. Although it was great to be away with all our friends and watch the beachfront ceremony…the crowds of strangers all around us took away from the privacy of the moment. When we arrived at this unbelievable complex we were in disbelief at how incredibly perfect it would be for a destination wedding…SERIOUSLY! So, picture this - starting at $15,000 a week for a group of villas and condos that can accommodate up to 50 people…that offers accommodations nicer than ANY hotel or resort you will find in the Huatulco region. And that’s just the beginning…the private and gated complex has a total of 4 pools and one cool-air Jacuzzi. Beside the central pool, there’s a palapa covered area complete with a shared bar, tables and chairs, and a perfect open space to turn up the tunes and dance till dawn!

Best of all - your group would be the only people there if you booked out the whole place so…you can party as mildly or wildly as you wish…it’s all up to you. In addition to all these amazing details - you also have a team of staff at your disposal for meal prep, drink service, etc - all for only an extra $10/person/day + the cost of booze and groceries (which they will gladly stock for you).

And honestly, that’s just the beginning…there is honestly just too much to write about. 9.) Best Corporate Retreat Villa

This villa says both functionality and vacation-retreat. The rooms are all set-up in a very apartment-like fashion - offering three bedrooms per unit. Each of the three units has its own kitchenette, living room and balcony. Although this villa could most certainly be used for family vacations, it’s on-site meeting/board room makes it ideal to enjoy the surroundings while getting work done (if that’s what the occasion calls for). If the corporate retreat isn’t about work and is more about play…even better! This villa offers an amazing and private infinity pool with a swim-up bar included.

The whole pool area is really set-up to cater to a crowd. In addition to the bar, there is also a full open-air kitchen that can either be used by guests or staffed with a cook/server to accommodate your needs. There is an outdoor shower by the pool as well as male/female restrooms behind the pool area that offer the convenience of not having to walk back to your room to use the facilities. In addition, this villa offers private ocean-front access complete with sea-kayaks for guest use. Overall, this is a highly recommended setting for a group or corporate function with an incredible common area that you don’t have to share with anyone other than those in your own party…a far cry from a resort experience (both in privacy and cost).

The chill vibe of this ultra modern cliff-top, ocean-view villa is a perfect starting point for a great Huatulco vacation. You walk through the seamless glass doors that lead into a gorgeous entryway. From there, you can either go downstairs to the two lower level bedrooms or explore the incredible main floor open air kitchen, living room and pool all overlooking the Pacific Ocean vistas! One of the most unique architectural features of this villa is the “bridge-like” walkway that takes you from the foyer into the kitchen. At the end of the walkway, there’s a door that revolves from a centre-point creating a really unique entry-way into a true chef’s kitchen. It is absolutely breathtaking! The one upper bedroom also has stunning views - without even getting out of bed. It was designed in a way that absolutely encapsulates the opportunities to showcase beautiful views and takes advantage of the open-air living opportunities that Huatulco has to offer. In addition to its very unique architectural style it is most definitely an incredible vacation home that is the perfect setting for a wonderful tropical getaway!
